Frequently Asked Questions

How do we save money buying from you ?

Being internet based, we do not have to pay a fleet of sales reps. We also save time and money by shipping goods direct from the manufacturer, hence we have no storage costs and delivery time is reduced to just one day.

We also have the advantage of being paid for products at the time of purchase, via secure online credit card payment. These factors combined with our low overheads ensure that we can buy products at the best prices and pass these savings directly onto you, the customer.

Which fire extinguishers do I need ?

The fire extinguisher/s required will depend on the surrounding risks. See our advice

section for more information on selecting the correct fire extinguishers.

What size of extinguisher should I buy ?

The standard size for workplace use is 9 litre Water or Foam, 9Kg Powder or 2Kg CO2. For industrial applications the CO2 would usually be 5Kg.

For home or car use a 1KG or 2KG Powder extinguisher is sufficient.

Why are all fire extinguishers now red ?

This is a new EU Directive. In order to obtain British Standard approval BS /EN3,

all fire extinguishers now being manufactured are red. The old style of extinguishers in various colours are still in use, but are being phased out.

When should fire extinguishers be placed in cabinets, or on stands ?

The usual method of installing a fire extinguisher is via wall bracket, which is supplied with our extinguishers.

The use of extinguisher stands is usually for central locations in a room, where there is no wall and the only alternative would be to place the extinguisher on the floor, which could cause the extinguisher to corrode over time and cause problems if it was later called into use.

Extinguisher cabinets are generally for outside use, for example, in a car park. These can sometimes be used inside a premises to protect or prevent people from tampering with the equipment.

What are the symbols A, B, C on the front of a fire extinguisher ?

These are the classes or types of fire the extinguisher can be used on, see our advice section for further information on the classes of fire.
